ABC’s of Blood Stain Pattern Documentation
This course will provide training and assistance in the proper recognition, documentation, and collection of bloodstain pattern evidence. The ultimate purpose of learning the correct procedures for documenting and collecting bloodstain evidence is for later reconstruction of events at the crime scene.
Course topics include: Safety at the crime scene when dealing with Biological Evidence; Equipment Needs for the Bloodstain Documentation Kit; Photography of Bloodstain Patterns; Video Recording the Bloodstain Pattern Scene; Bloodstain Pattern Sketching Techniques; On Scene Presumptive Blood Testing to include Species On Scene Testing; Blood Detection Techniques, Bloodstain Terminology; Report Writing and Court Room Testimony presenting bloodstain pattern evidence. The students will work with mock items of evidence for blood detection and documentation of patterns. Furthermore, the students will work mock crime scenes for blood evidence and test and document the patterns within these mock scenes. The students will issue reports concerning the forensic facts within the mock scenes utilizing proper bloodstain terminology.
