Toolmark and Firearm Examination for the Non-Examiner

This is a unique one day class designed to familiarize crime scene investigators, detectives, and even attorneys, on the field of firearm and toolmark examination. This class will offer insight into the scope of services provided by most crime laboratories. The meaning of the various practical considerations of analysis will be discussed, as will the techniques on how to properly collect and document firearms related evidence. Bullet impacts, ejection patterns, and other on scene considerations for the firearm examiner will also be discussed. Additional testing to evidence such as DNA and prints will be discussed along with areas best suited for this analysis. Specialty type of investigations such as those regarding self-inflicted gunshot wounds, police involved shooting, and self-defense cases will be presented in class. Toolmark evidence and other types of evidence to look for at a scene will also be discussed.
