GPS Forensics

A PowerPoint and series of field exercises regarding the built-in memory functions of most stand-alone GPS devices. When encountered at a crime scene or in a vehicle, most agencies place the GPS devices into evidence as personal property. These devices have internal memory that may have recorded the entire crime or accident sequence, plus and post-incident movements. This class provides instruction as to GPS evidence retrieval, GPS device accuracy, data integrity and data analysis for locations, directions, times, speeds, and related elements. DISCLAIMER: This class WILL NOT discuss Cell Phone GPS data retrieval nor factory-installed Vehicle Navigation System data retrieval, as these are separate and distinct forensic specialties.
